To answer your question requires all kinds of knowledge of the conditions of life during defined periods of man's history on earth, and in what locations.  Mankind means all of us together.   If you take a small segment of mankind like the people of Iceland, they have it best now.  Even during the black plague in Europe, there were people in other areas living well by the standards of those days.  As a whole, there is no time when mankind had it best.
