In a discussion over fuel, heating and history, etc. the subject came up about the availability of "natural gas heating". One person firmly believes that it wasn't even available until the 1960's (something about the Louisiana Pipeline). My recollection is that although hideous my home in the 1950's had a natural gas converted from coal furnace.

  1. I would think a call to Laclede Gas PR department might get you an answer. I am sure they have some type of company archives or perhaps you could contact the MO Public Service Commission. I know we had coal into the late 50's and then a converted Santa Claus type furnace  (with an oil tank) which was then switched over to the now standard gas forced air type. Lived in the Normandy area (St. Louis County) at the time.
