  2. First time it happened in 1795 when Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was dissolved by the third partition.  

    Lithuania regained independence in 1918.  In 1940, Soviet Union occupied and annexed Lithuania in accordance with the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

    n**i Germany occupied Lithuania in 1941, then the Soviets re-occupied it again in 1944.

    Lithuania re-gained its independence from the Soviet Union in 1990.
