Is it possible to colonize Mars? I think in the far future yes. But if we do colonise Mars, we will age differently due to the law of relativity and the different speeds of the planet. Anyone thought of that?

  1. You wally Unknown...ice is frozen water..., and its possible that life was once there..., mars is kinda had to colonize due to the magnetic field of the planet which has died out..the magnetic field will protect us from sun radiation,.... lets see what Phoenix brings back to us. :P

  2. Actually it wasn't water they discovered ice that's from bombardment of asteroids with ice in them at both caps

Life in our own galaxy besides our own planet may only exist on Europa the moon. I shouldn't say on more like in. no organic life can live anywhere else the environment isn't stable enough and life on mars being possible yes it could have been that there was life on mars but not highly probable.

  3. You might want to brush up on those relativity equations.  Neither Earth nor Mars is traveling anywhere near the speed of light.  It's not an issue, period.

The Viking orbiters (1970s-1980s) discovered that Mars' northern ice cap is made of water ice.

Yes, it is "possible" that there was life on Mars AND that there is still life on Mars. (Think underground bacteria associated with natural thermal activity.)

As for colonizing Mars...sure, we could put people under a dome or underground.  BUT WHY???

  4. At 8:03 p.m. ET on June 20 2000, SPACE.com reported that NASA had found evidence of water on Mars. The tremendous discovery fuels hope for microbial life on the Red Planet. It also makes a human mission to Mars more practical.

  5. I believe the most conclusive evidence of 'water' comes from the discovery of ice with the Phoenix Lander currently on the Northern pole of Mars.  The 'Spirit' and 'Opportunity' rovers have found minerological evidence that liquid water once flowed on Mars, but no evidence of present water.

Is it possible that there was once life on Mars?  Yes.  Where there is liquid water, organic matter and a source of energy (solar or geothermal) there is the possibility of life.  If life exists or existed on Mars it was/is probably microbial.

While Mars and Earth travel at different speeds - this is irrelevant from a relativistic perspective in terms of how the passage of time would be perceived - though on Mars a year is longer because it takes longer to get around the sun.  So in this sense - a 'lifespan' of say 75 Earth years would be fewer on Mars.

I hope someday we have the technology and the wisdom to colonize Mars - but for now - Earth is our home.  We'd better save it from ourselves.

Great question - KEEP STUDYING SCIENCE - Science is our great hope for the future.

  6. They just found water on Mars, or rather frozen water, not too long ago.  As for colonizing Mars, it is possible, but it is not a good idea.  The environment is too unstable, therefore, it would not be an ideal place to live.  We won't age more rapidly as space and time or continuous.  Unless Mars is in a Worm hole, which it isn't.  I think that colonizing Mars, or even attempting t put HUMANS on Mars is a bad idea.  We know enough to know that it would likely kill the first mission to Mars.  And probably 2 or 3 or more following missions.  Is it really worth it is a better question, which I have posted.
