  1. Southwest's first aircraft type the Boeing 737-200 was retired  in 2005 and replaced with Boeing 737-700.

  3. It started phasing out in 2004, with January 2005 marking the last -200 retired. Interesting side fact, Southwest Airlines has not always been merely 737s; at a time in the '70's, 727s were used through lease but in Southwest's livery. Of course, though, due to better cost and performance, Southwest Airlines has not only stayed with 737s, but has changed and grown with them as the aircraft themselves have adapted.
