When did stylists start to do razor cuts?

I know using a razor to cut hair is actually an ancient practice, but it seems the regular use of this technique is relatively recent. Any hairstylists out there know when it started to be taught in schools - and became a mainstream practice in america?

I hate razor cut hair. Its like instant split ends. Mum said it was common in the 70s. Its had a revival since the late 90s. I don't think it should be general practice although obviously ppl need to know all the techniques. They should consult ppl b4 just hacking into your hair in my opinion. Good for texturizing short hair though.
