I know it's still around, but what year did it lose it's power as a virtual world empire?

  4. Did not

  5. Hello,

It never was; we need to remember that after the fall of Rome, right up to the 18th century quite often Church and state were intertwined with one another.

Of course as far as weakening internally goes, the first schism was with the Greek Orthodox in  the 5th century and the second, the Reformation in the early 16th century.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  6. It can't be pinpointed to just one particular year.  It was a series of events that led to that.  First, I would guess the schism between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church in the 11th century contributed.  The events that led up to the Crusades (the Arabs' aggression) probably had a hand in it as well.  The final nails in the coffin were the beginning of the Protestant movement (c. 1529), and Henry VIII's break with the Catholic Church in 1534.  Also, the settling of North America probably played its part as well.  The world became a much larger place, really.

Edit:  Michael Kelly is also right about the schism, it did start as early as the 4th or 5th century, but didn't become official until the 11th century.

  7. it still up and running in my opinion, virtual world empire is just more advertise I think that's why it seems more over powering!!!
