  1. 1987.

    3 teams from Division Two, plus one from Division One, played semi-finals and a final, all over two legs, home and away. I seem to recall that Charlton Athletic staved off relegation by beating Ipswich Town in the final.

    Edit: Actually, Charlton beat Ipswich in the semi. It was Leeds they beat in the Final. In a replay.
