The Milennium Dome was redeveloped from 2003-2007 and made into the O2 Arena.  The Dome was originally developed and completed in 2000 for special Milennium exhibits and closed at the end of the year.  The Dome sat pretty much empty from 2001-2005 except for hosting occasional concerts and exhibits.  It became kind of a laughing stock as a waste of money because of it's costly construction and becoming basically a waste of space.  You can find out more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_O2_aren...
