I read somewhere long time ago about it but I cant find it anymore (but I think Im probably wrong). It was something about fightings involving North Vietnamese Hawker Hurricanes against F4 Phantoms during Vietnam War. I am talking about real warfare fightings. Thanks in advance Leonardo

  1. During the vietnam war. An A-1 Skyraider shot down a NVAF Mig-17 with 20mm cannon fire.

  2. It should be the A1-Skyraider intercepted by a Chinese MiG-19 in February 1968. Though the Skyraider isnt exactly a fighter aircraft...

The pilot was LTJG Joseph P. Dunn.

  3. I think it may have been as late as Vietnam or Korea, P51s going against Migs... they didn't last long.

I morn the loss of so many WW2 aircraft in such futile manner.

  4. In 1965, a MiG-17 was shot down by Navy A-1 skyraider pilot, LTJG Charles Harman III.  Another MiG-17 was shot down in 1966 by Navy pilot LTJG William Patton.  Both over Vietnam.   P.S.  North Vietnamese never flew Hurricanes as they never traded heavy military weapons with Britain, but they did with USSR and China.

  5. I believe it was in the Korean war when a Marine pilot took out a N Korean MiG-15 while flying a Corsair F4U.  The Corsair went down too.  I don't know if this was the last incident.

"On 10 September 1952, a MiG-15 made the mistake of getting into a turning contest with a Corsair piloted by Captain Jesse G. Folmar, with Folmar shooting the MiG down with his four 20 millimeter cannon.[42] The MiG's wingmen quickly had their revenge, shooting down Folmar, though he bailed out and was swiftly rescued with little injury."

"??A Navy skyraider shot down a mig 17 in Vietnam??"
