I have a really important research project in which I must impersonate someone who is a Titanic passenger. Can anyone tell me when the passengers purchased their tickets for the maiden voyage? This is extremely important and if anyone can help me, that would be fantastic!

  1. It could have been months in advance, my cruise was  3 months in advance. Booked in November, left in February.

      ET

  2. It probably varies from a couple months until right before it set sail... I don't think you teacher is going to google: What time did Titanic passengers buy tickets? But just say a couple weeks before it set sail because there were about 1318 passengers I read before... so it could be from maybe even a year in advance or at the last second.

  3. sales started when voyage announced July of 1911,  until it was to set sail for voyage - March 20, 1912, this was delayed until  new date for Titanic's maiden voyage of  April 10, 1912.

i do not think it sold out before it set sail.   cjhs

  4. Since that was the maiden voyage of the Titanic, people had probably been looking forward to it since before the ship was completed. That's a tricky question. It could be up to a year or more before.

  5. 1.   In July of 1911,  White Star and Harland & Wolff  announced a date for Titanic's maiden voyage - March 20, 1912.

September 20, 1911: Titanic's maiden voyage delayed due to necessary diversion of workers and materials to repair Olympic.

October 11, 1911: White Star officially announces new date for Titanic's maiden voyage in the London Times - April 10, 1912.

This information leads me to believe that tickets would not have been sold before July, 1911 (when the first date was announced).  It seems to make sense, also, that ticket sales would slow or stop when construction was interrupted; then ticket sales might pick up again after the Oct. 11, 1911, announcement of the new launch date.

    2.   According to the second link I have given below, Joseph Laroche purchased tickets for his family in March, 1912.

    3.   According to the third link below, one family was transferred to the Titanic when the ship they were ticketed for was cancelled.  This transfer happened "in the spring of 1912," which at least tells us that the Titanic was not sold out by spring.

    4.  The 4th link shows what a first class ticket looked like.

  6. i bet they did not sell out until a few hrs before she sailed
