  1. The Pendle Witch Trials were in 1612. The new king had got everybody interested in witch-hunting, and the antinomianism which would eventually lead to the Civil War was in temporary abeyance.

Even then the trials are probably remembered only because of the indictment of Alice Nutter. Hanging a witch - or even several witches - was no big deal. But witches were supposed to be poor and uneducated. Alice Nutter was a lady - nobody expected her to be working for the devil.

  2. 1612 In Derbyshire England near Pendle Hill. Plus most haunted investigated there.

  3. 1612

The twelve accused lived in the area around Pendle Hill in Lancashire, and were charged with the murders of ten people by the use of witchcraft. All but two were tried at Lancaster Assizes 17–19 August 1612 along with the Samlesbury witches and others, in what became known as the Lancashire witch trials. One was tried at York Assizes on 27 July 1612, and another died in prison. Of the eleven Pendle witches who went to trial – nine women and two men – ten were found guilty and executed by hanging and one was found not guilty.
