  1. This location was the site of a civilization twice. The first time, the prehistoric Ubaid peoples inhabited this region appx. 8-10,000 years ago, which is where the prehistoric Sumerian language originated...

Then, there was the Bibical Flood which, completely decimated the region, circa 6,500 years ago...

  2. about three weeks ago.

  3. around 10000 bce.

  4. I know this is similar to another answer but the Mesolithic  if you count from the first urban settlements in northern mesopotamia but later if you count civilisation as starting with large urban settlements ie cities in southern mesopotamia!

  5. Mesopotamia was one of the cradles of civilization.  It was one of the very few places on Earth where agriculture was developed, which happened around 10,000 years ago.  That final move into full-time farming is what kick-started their civilization, as having a lot of food is necessary to build a complex society.  You can do it without basing it on agriculture, as native groups in the northwestern US and Canada did (theirs was based on salmon runs), but those are special cases.
