When did the peoplle started using mean (average)?

people are using average of speed time and many other things so i need to know who approved it and included in the regular studies

average started very early. first it was not a mathematical or statistical term. it just meant normal.  for example, if anyone was considered of usual height and not tall or dwarf, he was of average height. similarly, average weight, average colour and so on. later the idea became measurable and use of average in mathematics and statistics became more technical and refined.
