  1. Late i944 they entered East Prussia.

    But they only entered today's Germany in strength in March 1945.

In October, 1944, the Red Army entered what was then East Prussia (part of Germany).  The Soviets ended up annexing this territory and calling it Kaliningrad.  In January 1945, the Red Army crossed the Oder River and entered into Germany proper.  The Elbe River is actually in central Germany--that is where Russian and US forces linked up.  By the time the Red Army got to the Elbe, they'd already been in Germany for some time.

  3. Spring 1945. My Grandpa fought in the Battle Of the Buldge with the Americans.

  4. early january 1945, crossed the River elbe and into Germany, Aushwitz was freed in late january 1945.

  5. late 1944 or 1945. it was after the "battle of the bulge" and that was in dec. of'44.
