  8. When the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1919. This sickeningly pro-British and French and anti-German and Austrian document attempted to destroy German honor, industry, and military power. The Germans couldn't handle such an insult, and spent the next 20 years preparing to get back at their enemies.

    When the Germans conquered France, they had the treaty formally destroying France as a country signed in the same woods, in the same train car, as the Treaty of Versailles had been signed. The monument to the 1919 treaty on that site was dynamited by German troops.

    Also insulted in 1919 at Versailles was a representative of the French colony in Vietnam, who was denied admission into the meetings. His name was Ho Chi Minh, and he would later start the Vietnam War.
