  1. THE LONGEST TIME by Billy Joel came out  in 1984 (although he recorded this song in 1983). It was featured on Billy Joel's AN INNOCENT MAN album (it was the fourth single off this album).

    This song was a homage to doo-w*p music .

    This song required 14 background vocal tracks, each of which were done by Joel and pieced together in production.

    It reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, and #25 on the UK Singles Chart.


  2. It was recorded in 1983 and released as a single in March, 1984.  Apparently WCBS-FM of New York City began playing "The Longest Time" in the summer of 1983 since it was on the "An Innocent Man" album which was released in August, 1983.
