Smart folk used to write everything in Latin. Homo Sapiens Sapiens is the correct term for us modern humans.

In Latin it means simply..."the wise" and compared to our immediate ancestors us modern humans, the latest version of our species is, believe it or not, wise!

I realize that if you listen to many politicians and preachers..."wise" is not the first term that comes to mind.

By comparison, however, even our president would be considered wise compared to say,Australopithecus.

'Homo sapien' is the identifying Latin name for the species that stands upright, often referred to as Man.  Latin is the basis for many languages spoken in the Western World today.  All scientific manes are Latin in origin.  Thus, many Latin terms are used in everyday languages in many countries in the West.

"Homo Sapiens" means "Wise man" in Latin  ('Homo' is also a cognate of Old English guma "bridegroom").
