  1. unlike "AA", the B battery is not a specific size. Normally they were 45 to 90 volts and came in a variety of shapes. The radio B battery provide the HV for the tube (valve) in battery operated sets. These became hard to find after about 1960. When transistors and sub-compact tubes came out in the 1950s, it shrunk down to 22 volts and was about the size of a modern 9 volt battery, these were available in stores until about 1975.
