Question:

When did two bad races become a "slump"?

So Kyle Busch had two bad finishes. He acted like he'd just come out of a loooong winless drought in Victory Lane yesterday. And then the Washington Post's writer refers to him "snapping a two-race slump."

Excuse me? My guys Tony Stewart and Juan Pablo Montoya are in a "slump." I can think of others in "slumps." Some have been in "slumps" for their entire careers. But two races? Really?

Does anyone else find that a little ridiculous?

  1. I agree, two bad races does not a slump make.  Sometimes I think they're just trying to fill dead air with inane comments.

  2. Yeah I read that as well.

2 races is not a slump at all. I have no idea why they wrote that, other than the fact that maybe they were hoping for a better storyline (5 races or more without a win perhaps, they would have been writing that he was just a flash in the pan).

2 races without a win is still way above average.

My favorite driver is in a slump..Not one points win since the 2007 Daytona 500.

Tony Stewart is in a slump right now.

I think it is safe to say that Jeff Gordon is in a bit of a slump right now.

  3. I thought it was a rediculous way to put it. Kyle Busch ends his "winless steak" or "slump"......It seems Yahoo Sports and Nascar.com are trying to come up with catchy headlines for their articles to gain readers.

Most drivers would love to be in that kind of "slump".

  4. I have to agree with you and disagree with you. I agree with you because a lot of drivers would be happy with one win a year, let alone 5 in the first half of the season.  You are right, Tony is in more of a slump. He also has 2 championships so Tony is a whole lot more capable of doing better. And also like someone else mentioned about Johnson. He is in a slump, relatively speaking. On the other hand, Kyle is being very expectatious and has loads of confidense so his standards are higher right now, therefore he is upset with 5th place runs. I am not a fan of Kyle, but it's somewhat of a good thing that he has confidence and is upset with 10th place runs, that is what makes drivers excel. But you are right, It looks very bad when a driver has not won in 2 weeks and he considers it a slump, and like what the commentor said

  5. Those are just people who are hellbent on wanting to see Kyle fail, that or they're just idiots.

Martin Truex Jr. is in a slump, Kevin Harvick is in a slump, Kurt Busch is in a slump, Dale Jr. just broke out of a slump.

How the h**l does two races equal what's happening to these guys?

  6. it is ridiculous... junior was in a slump.. two races even 10 races is not a slump

  7. yeah its anot a slump. jr was in a slump. and sterwart and montoya. those  people who writes the paper just says it so they can make a paycheck

  8. 2 races is a slump for Kyle Busch. 2 years is a slump for Dale JR. Now thats cool.

  9. I would agree, there are a lot of guys who wish they just came off a two race slump.....

  10. When I heard that, I had to laugh. I believe I said, "Are you kidding me?”

  11. yahoo sports had a similar article  sayiny kyle busch breaks slump

    yes its ridiculous

  12. I do. Two races is not a slump. My #1 guy is in a slump as well, and after the boneheaded move he made yesterday, he is now out of the top 12. But I expect him to rebound.

  13. And one of the 2 races was a 13th..... As a stewart fan i'd trade 8 of our finishes this year for a 13th. Slump... HAH

    Get real!!

Jimmie must be slumping with his championships this year too then LOL

  14. Yes it's ridiculous to say two weeks without a win is a "slump"

As far as how he acted in victory lane, you must've seen something I didn't, he was celebrating the way he always does. It didn't seem he was acting like he was coming out of a loooong drought.

He himself, never said he was in a "slump" that's what the reporters were saying.

  15. Some of his haters have more confidence in him than anyone...they really seem to think he should win every race, otherwise he's not any good to them.

My opinion is that the ones who said he was in a slump (for a whole 2 races) are just upset because they thought/hoped it would last a lot longer, and that his candle had already burnt out. Yesterday he proved that he is just getting started, and now he's focusing on winning the championship, without worrying about the Nationwide and truck series. Some people are still unwilling to admit he has a crazy amount of talent, and can win on any track you put him on.

Yesterday he was even "gracious" in his interviews and now people are just trying to nitpick and find stuff wrong with him. It must not be fun to be them, but if you're a Kyle fan you have to enjoy what he has been able to do each week, while proving the naysayers wrong in the process.

  16. I dont think anyone was claiming he was in the middle of a slump.  I think some were wondering if maybe he had peaked already and wondered if he would rebound and return to the success he had prior.  And remember, the guys on tv need talking points.
