  1. Yes, France didn't grant women the right to vote until the 40's, which is embarrassingly late, but then in the US it was only a little over 20 years earlier than that, and if I'm not mistaken, even the first country to allow this- New Zealand- didn't do so until the 1890's: "In 1893, New Zealand was the first country to introduce universal suffrage, following a movement led by Kate Sheppard (see Women's suffrage in New Zealand)."

    On April 21st 1944 for the right but the first time they could vote was April 29th 1945.

  4. Most recently in July 1944 in France.

    The 1871 Paris Commune granted voting rights to women, but they were taken away with the fall of the Commune.

  5. I am very ashamed that my country, France, gives this right only in 1946.

    The first law voted in 1919 by our deputies in Parliament was canceled by our Senate !
