When did you conceive/have your second child? Is there a better age to do it at?

Our son is 8 months old, and now we think that we'd like to give him a sibling. We want to wait until he is at least walking around and hopefully potty trained though.

My sister and I were exactly 2 years apart, and it worked out very well. I'd like for our son to have a sibling so they can play together etc. I've known only children that have had a hard time because of it.

From your experience what do you think is the best age difference?

  1. I don't know what the best age difference is, but my fiance wasn't ready to start trying for another one until the first was almost 2 years old. I haven't HAD the baby yet, he's still in my tummy, but she will be almost 3 when this baby is born and I have noticed in the last 6 months that she is heaps more independant and I am glad we had waited as I think she is going to be a good age to be a big sister (and requires less of my attention than she did 6 months ago!) Yeah I reckon 2-3 years would be a good age gap, gives the first child their time alone with parents

  2. We also waited until our son was walking (at 9 months) and I got pregnant when he was 10 months.  They will be 19 months apart.  It will be challenging while they are both young, but hopefully they will be friends and they will benefit from this close spacing.

  3. I think that two yrs is a good time period. Like you said ur kids will have someone close to them as a sibling. I wish I had that I have brothers and sisters but we're like almost thirthy yrs apart they're like my parents instead of my brothers or sisters I don't think of them that way anyways imagine that.. I'm gonna have my first baby in January and after three or four yrs I hope to have my second one. Good luck though on the second baby
