I first heard it on  NPR. It was a report about how theme was being retired and was sold to CTV..I am American so I didn't get to hear it until then

Probably sometime in the 70's.  My Dad would LISTEN to games on the radio...and still listened to games right up to the year he passed away.  But of course, we also heard it on TV.  It was cool because no matter where you were (in the car, somewhere in the house), you knew that the GAME was about to start whenever you heard that tune.
