  1. It was in 1964 or 65, I think, at a company that made various metal products in the small midwestern farm town where I grew up - trailer window frames, perforated metal shelving units for store displays, blades used to buff the rubber off tires to make retreads, and other things I can't remember.

My first job was bundling the blades into bunches of 28 and wrapping the bundles with wire.  I had to tape my fingers with several layers of adhesive tape twice every day to safely handle the blades and standing in one place all the time hurt my feet and back.

I think I was paid about $1.25 an hour and took home around $34 or $36 per week.

I wasn't very good at the blade thing and didn't like it at all, so I was later transferred to the metal shelving department where I worked in the painting sub-department - taking the shelves off the conveyor line when they came out of the paint booths and dry-off ovens, and then stacking them on wooden palates we called "skids".

I worked at that job for about 3 years (because it was one of only 2 factories that were practically the ONLY sources of employment in that tiny town) till I had saved enough money to move away from home, halfway across the country.

  2. subway 150$ i thought i was soooo rich lol that was in 1994

  3. My first job was picking worms at Sam's Worm Farm in Citrus Heights Calif. when I was 11.

I got paid by the container.

I can't remember how much, but I still remember we had to put 55 redworms in each one!

    I'm now 50.
