When did you guys get Cell Phones?

I'm in highschool and tons of people have phones. Yes I've went through 9th grade without one mainly cause i didn't need one and shy. But over the summer i've worked hard improving myself mentally (not being shy, talkative). And i'll be working on my driver's liscnese so i'll be getting a car soon.

So yea I think i'll be getting one soon to let my parents contact if they need me asap. Plus people can call me directly and leave messages and stuff/text.

So when did you guys get your cell phones? Any particular reasons? I know my cousins and his whole family has one because they don't use a home phone.

I got my first cell phone in college. Since college life requires one to be highly mobile (classrooms, libraries, labs, cafeteria/restaurant parties), it's difficult for anyone to reach me via landline phone.

After college, I found very little use for landline phone (costs $20/month and I hardly use it to make a phone call) so I am on cell phone only now.

I got mine in 11th grade, I think.

I got my first mobile phone when I was 16 'cos I wasn't living with my own family, so they needed to keep in touch with me and it was for keeping in touch with family and relatives really.

I got one as soon as I started working. When I was 16. So I could get in touch with the places that  I applied at.

I'm in eighth grade now, and I got a cell phone at the end of 3rd grade, I got it because I live in a rich area and many people had cell phones.  Well, good luck getting a cell phone.[=

I got one when I started high school so that my parents could contact me when I was out and so that I could call whenever I needed a ride from school.
