  1. Years ago. I dont use one - instead I have a heat pillow filled with wheat which I gently heat in the microwave - its safer - less risk of burns from metal parts etc on some bottles

  2. i had 1 that you had to put in the microwave for 3 mins and lasted all night last time i even saw it tho was around 2 years ago so then

  3. I have never used a water bottle.

  6. Earlier this year.  I have never lost my love of hot water bottles.  I don't go for the microwavable ones.  I like to stand late at night in the kitchen, pouring hot water from the kettle into a hot water bottle.  I still have one with a knitted cover that my gran gave me.

There's a very moving Alan Bennett monologue with a woman called Doris, and at the end she says 'I wish I was ready for bed.  All washed and in a clean nightie, and the bottle in, all sweet and crisp and clean like when I was little on Baking Night ...'

  7. About 1971.  In the days when houses did not have central heating.

When I was a child, we used to take hot bricks our mother had heated in front of the open fire during the evening, wrap them in newspaper and take them up to bed with us.

I can still remember waking up and stubbing my toes on that cold bloody brick!!
