When did you receive the receipt for your i-130 with currently filed i-485 immigration form?

I recently filed an I-130 concurrently with the I-485 to the proper Chicago lockbox location. I know that they received it, because I sent it with confirmation via the usps. I would like to know, however, how long it will take for them to send me a receipt. Do they have to do any processing of my application before they send one, or will they just send it right away once they see that all the forms and payments are there?

I know that this varies from person to person, but please tell me from your experience how long it takes just to get the receipt. I am so anxious about this! thanks.

  1. Rule number one

Do not stress yourself out with dates.

Is not going to help and is not going to make your process to go any faster.

You should be receive a letter  anytime from 30 to 60 days if you did everything correct.

So take it easy and do not stress to much my friend.

  2. These days nobody can predict the processing time of any applications of USCIS. First, USCIS will check if all the forms and required supporting documents are in order and then they will put all the information and your data to their system before they produce Receipt Notice. It takes some time for from 2 months to 6 months before you get Receipt Notice.

You have to grow patience when you deal with USCIS.

    Good luck!

  3. I sent my application at the beginning of Dec 07 and got a receipt in the mail a week later.  They hired a lot of people to deal with the huge rise in application due to the fee raise last year, that is why they are going to a lock box now, so that they can get application receipted and entered onto the system quickly.  One they verify the forms you have sent and the correct fees you will be issued a receipt.  I had my biometrics interview early Jan 08, had advance parole and work authorization end of Jan / beg of Feb 2008, interview was scheduled for early Apr 08 and my green card arrived in the mail a couple of weeks later.  Hope this helps - good luck :)
