I know they say that you shouldn't have anything in the crib with the baby because of SIDS. My daughter is 7 months old and was wondering when I can give her her blanket!!!

  1. ive been giving my 6.5 month old a really soft teddy bear to stroke everynight i think if its a small blanket you should be fine but consult with your pediatrician.

  2. Emma has always slept with a blanket.  When she was younger I would tuck it into her mattress.

  3. to be honest my daughter had a blanket from day 1... i think it's opk but if u feel better ask ur doctor what they think

  4. i have to say that my son is 4 months old and he has had a blanket since about 1 & 1/2 months. you have to watch them the first two or three time to make sure they dont cover their own heads but i think not having one is c**p. sids usually is from people who put their child to bed at 6 pm and not check on him till noon the next day. its all about good and bad parenting..

  5. My son has pretty much always had a blanket.... When he was first born he had a blanket cause I would swaddle him up really tight.... and he never even messed with it.  I continued to allow him to sleep with a blanket up to about 3 months.  At that point he began pulling it over his head as he began to thrash around in his sleep.  Then I ended up re-introducing the blanket at about 4 1/2 months.  He can't stand anything on his face...... and he would never pull it up over his head.....  We played this game where I would lay a blankey over his head and he would rip it down and giggle.  I figured he could handle sleeping with a blanket.  No he loves his blanket and cant sleep without it....... he keeps it down under his arms and has to bunch his little finger around it..... its so cute...... He is 6 months old and hasn't had any problems......

  6. my son has slept with a blanket since he was in the hospital.

  7. My daughter had a blanket from birth.  however, since she's been 5 months old she rolls onto her stomach during the night to sleep, and she moves around so much, from back to stomach and stomach to bad that I was afraid she would get caught in the blanket so I took it away from her.  She didn't seem to mind because it was warm outside due to it being summer and all.  She is now seven months and on cool days I give her a blanket again, but on warm days I don't because she is a really warm baby.  I think that when the weather starts to turn cold i will give her a blanket again.

So the thing is, if you feel comfortable with the idea, then give her a blanket, and if you don't feel comfortable then i'd wait a while.  Your daughter is old enough to move around and move her head, so there shouldn't be a problem with giving her a blanket.  It might even make her sleep better.  The risk of sids decreases dramatically after your baby starts to roll from back to stomach and vice versa (that is what my doctor told me at our six month check up, because I was worried about her turning to on her stomach when she sleeps.  He also okayed a blanket, which made me feel better about using one.)

  8. As long as she's active, rolling and sitting up she will be fine.  The point is that if the blanket were to cover her face she would be able to pull it off.

  9. My son has slept with one since he was a day old.Go by your feelings on this one..

  10. From about 3 months old is what I have seen with no problems.

SIDS is in more cases than not a non-observant parent. Those that put a child in before bed and do not check in on them until lunch the next day...

  11. I believe when they are one year of age is approrpriate to provide a child w/ a blanket but check w/ your pediatrician to make sure.

If you are fearful your child is getting cold, use a sleep sack to keep them warm.

  12. I gave my babies a blanket from day one. I just made sure that it was light and I tucked it around their bodies under their armpits.

  13. Mine always had one. Its the pillow that they say you should not put in a crib until they are atleast one year old.

  14. I let my baby sleep with a blanket from day 1.  You can let your baby sleep with a blanket, it won't cause SIDs.

  15. My son has slept with one since he was born.

  16. well you could actually give them a blanket when they are born but if you feel uncomfortable with it give them a really light blanket and just watch her when she puts it over her face thats all.

  17. I have since both of mine have been born.  I tucked it firmly around the mattress and I stopped doing it after they were old enough to pull it out themselves.  I would think you would be more than fine if she is 7 months old..  Ask your dr what she thinks at her next well baby visit.

  18. My son is two months old and I use a little blanket. I just keep it down lower around his waist.  I know they say don't do it, but I want my baby to have some cover.
