Question:

When did you start putting blankets back in the crib with your baby?

I stopped putting my son to bed with a blanket when he was about four months old and started moving around in his crib. I know they say not to have any pillows or blankets in with the baby, but when is it okay to start putting them back in? He is almost nine months old. Is that still too young?

  1. My son is 5 months old and he has always had a blanket in his crib. He has been just fine.

  2. Alyssa will be 9 months old on Wednesday and she has had a blanket from day 1. She sleeps better with one.

  3. my baby has been sleeping with a blanket since Day 1. he sleeps in the same room with me so i can keep an eye on him.  he's a smart baby and has never put the blanket over his head.

  4. i waited until one year, as that is one the SIDS warnings are relaxed/over. ruby sleeps with one, not too big, breathable cotton blanket. until 12 months she slept always in a sleepsack.

  5. Both my kids have never had blankets until they went into a bed. I used sleeping bags. I will do the same for my next baby too.

  6. Use a sleeping bag.

  7. my daughter is 11 months and still doesn't use either. She is just fine without it and doesn't know any different.

I think I am going to try and wait until she is in a toddler bed to give her a pillow and blanket.

She moves around so much she would for sure wrap the blanket around her all weird!

I think 9 months is a little early. Maybe wait until it starts getting colder out, like November. Then he will be about a year and able to control movements better.

  8. i swaddled my daughter from day one and i started putting blanket tucked in on both sides of her crib from when she was 2 weeks old

  9. ask your pediatrician if you are unsure. personally, i'd wait until one year.

  10. I asked my pediatrician this question recently and she said to be on the safe side, wait until the baby is a year old.  If he is cold, you can put a wearable blanket on him.  He probably would be fine with a blanky or stuffed animal in there but really why chance it yet?

  11. i used a baby sleeping bag on both my sons my eldest is 23 months and was constanly all over his cot when he was asleep so i felt safer with him just having the sleeping bag as it attaches as an actual suit. i didnt start using blankets until he was 15 months and outgrew his sleeping bag. my 8 month old is still using his sleeping bag and i am not going to use blankets on him either until he outgrows it. hope this helps. but really its how comfortable you feel with it and if you have any doubts then leave it a little longer.

  12. My son was born in January and our house was cold no matter what the heat was on (bad setup apartment)  He has always had a blanket or two on the really really cold days.  I just tucked them under his arms at the beginning when he really didn't move, and now at 7 1/2 months I cover him up to his shoulders.  Even though it is summer he has to have a thin fleece blanket to sleep.  He has been fine and never stuck under the covers.  The blanket sleepers didn't work for me, as he was opposed to anything that trapped him feet.

  13. I think my son was around a year old, even though he has never kept his blankets on.  He's a little heater though, so he rarely needs one.
