When did you start feeding your baby 3rd stage foods. My son is 7 months old and has been on 2nd stage foods for a while now. Per doc. DOc told me when he started to move his jaws like he could chew i could feed him 3rd stage foods. He has been doing the chewing thing for a while now. I have let him chew on pizza crust or a bread stick and french fries and he does pretty good with them. He hasnt choked yet. of course if he gets a big piece in his mouth i pull it out. lol. But Im nervous about feeding him the 3rd stage foods are the chunks that big. Just from looking through the bottle the little chunks in it look small enough just to swallow like they dont even have to be chewed is this right?

  1. i get gerber coupons and things in the mail... a pamphlet came with it and said stage 3 food should start around 9 months.  i don't know.. im not that far yet.  thats just what the gerber people say!  good luck

  2. Why do stage 3 foods when you can just feed him regular table foods. If you let him feed himself he is less likely to choke because he is controlling the amount and what goes in his mouth. Of course he will gag, but that is different than choking and is normal for inants starting to eat any food. At 7 months my daughter was completely on table foods.

  3. I fed my daughter stage three foods right about 8 1/2 months.  i too waited because I was so scared!  She one decided that she didn't want the mushy stuff anymore, and didn't eat "solids" for 3 days.  I was so worried my mother convinced me to try the stage 3 foods!  Tell pieces are small and tender.  They can be swallowed without being chewed!  My daughter was in heaven, she loved every morsel.  She is now 10 1/2 months and on "our" table food.  She no longer wants to be spoon fed and has moved on to fruits, veggies, cheese, cereal, and meats!  I miss the baby food because I didn't have to put any thought into her meal preparation, but the transition is going well for the both of us.  It won't hurt to try him on the stage 3!!

  4. If he eats those other things third stage food will be a breeze

  5. If you're nervous then it's too soon.  Wait another month.  There's no rush to move him to the next stage.

  6. 7 months is a little early for the chunky stuff (for me it was anyways) but I never bothered with 3rd stage.  If they can chew that, they can chew table food.  Try soft pasta or steamed carrots that instantly mash.
