Question:

When did you start your baby on solid foods?

I checked on the American Pediatrics Association's website and it says that babies can start solid foods between 4-6months. How do I know if my daughter is ready to start solid foods? She is 4 months old and almost 16lbs. Since she is a good sized baby I don't want to start solids too early and overfeed her but some of the things I read say that one sign that a baby is ready to try solids (like infant cereal) is doubling their birth weight which she has done. She also sits well when supported and shows interest in our food when we are eating. Like I said I don't want to start her on solids too early and my pediatrician says that if she is sleeping through the night I don't need to start her on solids if she's not ready because she is a big baby, I'm just not sure how to know when she is ready. Thanks for the help!

  1. my baby is 4 months old now and she is starting because she showed interest in our food. she does pretty good with the 1st foods.

  2. All my 4 children started on solid at 5 months. They were ready because they began to become more interested in our foods then there own. It is just a mothers instinct to know when.

  3. i started my son at 4 months because he was showing an extreme interest in our food. this was with his pediatrician's ok though.

  4. If you thinks she ready then go for it. If she's showing interest then I would go ahead. You don't have to give her a lot, just start out with a little and the older she gets the more you can give her. I started both of my girls on cereal at 2 months and baby food at 4 months. They did just fine!
