Just wondering when you all stopped sitting in the back seat of the car with your baby? My son is almost 3 months old and I wanted to stop sitting in the back with him....

  1. I have never sat in the back with my kids and I have three.  Just make sure when you get ready to leave that babies tummy is full... baby is always dry when you leave the house and he has his pacifier if he takes one.  Then be on your way.  This is a super rule of thumb with kids of all ages though.  I can't stand when people take toddlers out hungry and/or wet or having to go potty and think they should be able to behave.  If a child is content when they leave the house, then they will enjoy the ride and won't tend to fuss or cry.. because they won't have a reason to.

Anyway, some smaller vehicles you can put the seat on the opposite side in the back (kitty corner from you) so that you can calm the baby from the drivers seat.

The baby will cry sometimes and that is ok... soon enough the baby will learn that when the car is in motion they have to be content.  LOL, I had one son who would be totally quiet and then at every stop light would fuss thinking that the car was stopped so we should be able to help a fella out with a binky, lol.

    Anyway.. hope this helped!!

Edit: this was just my experience- thought I would share... My sis in law got us one of those mirrors so we could see our 8 week old from the drivers seat and my oldest son pointed out the other day that when the sun hits it right there is a horrid reflection right in our babies eyes.  Being that he is only 8 weeks old he cant shield his eyes from it.  So we removed the mirror.  My other two sons did just fine in the back seat without me seeing them, lol, so I am sure this one will be fine.

  2. well my husband is deployed so i have to let my little girl sit alone... not really another option right now... but I sat back there until he left and she is a month old now... i got one of thoese mirrors so you can see the baby while driving... it gave me a lot of comfort!

  3. My son is 8 weeks old and I still sit in the back.  He has a meltdown if he loses his pacifier and I can't reach it safely from the front seat to reinsert.  So I'll keep sitting in the back until he can put the paci back in his own mouth - just to keep him from freaking out!

  4. I only rode in the back a couple of times specially when she first came home from the hospital because the streets here are really rough and bumpy and i didn't want her little head bouncing everywhere..she is now 3 weeks old and she is holding her head up a lot better but i put receivingng blanket behind her head rest to make sure she doesn't fall to one side cause she is still real small in her car seat.

  5. With my first baby he was probably six months old when I stopped sitting with him. However with my second and third I never sat in the back seat next to the carrier because there wasn't any room back there. We have a minivan and the second row seating only has two chairs in it. My son was already in one of them, so it wasn't possible for me to sit next to the baby.

I don't think it really matters. It's not any safer for the baby whether you're back there or not. Really your presence is just for reassurance, so your decision should be based on how your baby reacts to riding in the car. If your baby seems happy back there and doesn't need reassurance from you it's fine to sit in the front seat. Or just ride in the front seat when your baby is happy and move into the back if he gets upset.

    Hope this helps ...

  6. i never sit in back with baby unless im in taxi and you should obviously keep him in the back for safety reasons as its the safest place for him i know what u meant and still i dont baby will be fine usually they will watch out window or fall asleep in my experience anyway

  7. I am mom to 4 kids and I never sat in the back seat with them.  Why would you sit in the back seat instead of up front with your husband?  I can't think of any good reason to sit back there.  Nothing is going to happen to them and they certainly don't need constant entertaining.  Many infants just fall asleep in the car.  When my kids were babies I either drove or sat in the passenger seat, never in the back.

  8. around 4 weeks..sometimes I still sit in the back with him if he's fussy or on long trips.

  9. I never did, there is just no room.

Definitely with two carseats there is no room.

  10. I never sat in the back seat with either of my 2 kids....But I believe if you feel ready and your child doesnt have any breathing problems its fine to stop!!

  11. I never did but I would think that 3 months is a good age to do so. Whenever you feel ready to really would be my answer. :)

  12. When your child stops resting their forehead on their chest when they sleep...lol...jk.  When you can see they don't have a problem breathing in the car seat... you are fine to sit in the front.  Just check on them from time to time.  Is there a rule or law about riding in the back with your child?

  13. My son just turned 8 months old and I still sit in the back with him when my husband is driving. I plan on sitting in the back with him until he turns forward facing.
