  1. Babies can ride in a convertable seat from birth. (It just needs to be rear-facing.)  Most parents start with an infant seat because newborns look so ... lost ... in the larger seats. (And infant seats are conveneint as baby carriers/seats outside the car.)

So if you want to switch, feel free to do so at anytime. (Just remmeber that she DOES need to stay rear facing until she is at leat 12 months AND 20 pounds.)

  2. Many, if not all, convertible car seats start at 5 lbs weight minimum.  We switched last month when my son was 6 mo. and almost 22 lbs.

  3. I switched at 9 months.  You have to look at the new seats weight ranges.  But you must keep it rear-faced!

  4. I know my convertible carseat can be used from birth on.  We used the infant seat until he was around a year old, but that was because he was so small--he was only around 20 lbs. at one year.

  5. i used the infant seat until mine was a year old but mainly just cause it was convenient when we switched i got a car seat that can be used from 5lbs to 100 lbs . rear facing until 20lbs and a year old then forward facing and when she is 4 it can be used as a booster seat.  so yes you just have to check the weight limits.

  6. i had to switch at like 2 1/2 or 3 months for my son, he was just way to big for an infant car seat. He's 6 months now and is 30 inches long, 21 lbs, but still rear facing (with his little feet all over my seat!) lol

  7. my son was in a convertible car seat since birth.

  8. She is old enough for a convertible car seat as long as it is rear-facing. My daughter is around 23lbs and is almost 14 months and I just switched her to a convertible car seat, in the rear-facing position, last night.

  9. i finally switched my daughter around 7 months, i may have done it sooner but i didn't have a car till then and there was not point. she was and is also VERY tall for her age. i would call the doc a clear it with them, that's what i did. my daughter was actually under the weight limit by a couple pounds, but since she is so stinking tall they said it would be safe to switch and have it rear facing. i think i ended up turning her around at 9-10 months (cant quite remember), again after speaking with my doctor.

  10. my youngest son is a tiny little thing. he's 16.8 lbs and 11 months old (dad and i are little too), he's just big enough for convertible car seat, but will remain backwards facing until he's 20lbs. he'll be well over 12 month before he's 20 lbs i just know..just like my other kids were.

we are a very "travel size" friendly family. LOL

  11. you can put your daughter in a convertible but she should remain rear facing until 1 year. My infant seat goes to 22 pounds or 1 year and she is about 16 pounds now so I'm going to be sticking with the infant seat awhile longer.

  12. i switched at the age of 1 year old because my mom didn't want to take any chances of getting hurt or being to young.

  13. Has anyone told you that you need to keep her rear facing until she's at least 1 year and 20 pounds? :p

I am planning on switching Em pretty quickly here. She is 6 months old, 28 inches long and just under 18 pounds. My only worry is that her head with really fall to the side when she sleeps, but we can address that when the issue arises I think.

    Good luck!

  14. No.  Children are supposed to be a year old or 20 lbs.  My daughter was 20lbs before she was a year old.

  15. no. as a rule she needs to be in the infant seat till she is a year. she still cannot control her hear and if there was a crash she could be hurt.

  16. yeah but dont for get to tie the seat belt
