When did you switch to a larger size of diapers?

Ok, Johnny is 9 months, he's about 19 lbs and he's in stage 3 diapers (Pampers). Doesn't stage 3 hold up to like 25 lbs or something? So why is it that his diaper is leaking at nights now? It's happened like 3 times. Should I go up to the next size?

UGH, and I stocked up on Stage 3 diapers, go figure.

  1. Yes you should move up.  If the diapers have not been opened Target will exchange them for a bigger size as long as you provide a receipt or if you are able to do a transaction search using your debit or credit card to show that you have purchased diapers from them in the past 90 days.

  2. I learned I can't go by weight, either.  What I have done for quite some time now w/ my oldest, and soon w/ my youngest, is I use a size larger at nights.  My oldest is in 5's---Pampers, and 6's at night started leaking, too.  So, a friend told me about Huggies Overnights (or something like that----it's the overnight diaper---not the night time training underpants/boxers), and size 6 in those works pretty well for him.  Still use Pampers for everything else, though.  I know it's frustrating!  Trying to keep up w/ all the sheet & mattress cover changes can be crazy sometimes!  Lots of laundry!  Good luck!

FYI:  Walmart is very good w/ exchanging unopened diapers w/o a receipt (as long as it's something they carry)---I've had to several times when other people bought diapers for us and didn't realize the boys had gone up a size.

  3. I usually switch when we have a couple of leaks or blow-outs in a week.  I f you have your receipts, most places will let you exchange your diapers.

  4. Well, Landon is still in stage 3 diapers, but my nephew is also 10 months old and he is in stage 4's. I would go up to the 4's at night if that is the only time he is leaking. If you need to go up a size for daytime too, almost any store will exchange diapers as long as they are not opened, so you can take back the size 3's.

  5. Those weight ranges are for some type of prototypical "average" sized baby, including boys and girls. My 2 year old daughter is quite skinny and still wearing size 3s. Your son is probably a bit chunky in comparison (I am not calling him fat or judging), so they probably fit him differently than her.

Never fear though, if the size 3s are still holding up during the day, use those during the day and switch him to a size 4 at bed time.

  6. i had the same problem the boxes "say" they go up to like 20 some pounds but i switch to size 4 when they started leaking at night and notice they were leaving red marks on him. i think he was like 18 pounds  when I switch

  7. Yep, time to move up a size!  I noticed the same thing with Eli this morning, he wears size 3 pampers and leaked through the front.  I just stocked up too......ack!

They "say" they go up to 25 pounds, but I have never found them to go up to what the "say".  The size 2 was good up to 20 pounds but I think I switched when he was about 15 pounds because of the same problem!

  8. i never go by weight when buying diapers...i can tell if the diaper looks a little tight...like if it leaves red marks on him, then i know it is time for bigger diapers. lol i know the feeling of stocking up....shortly after i bought a whole box of 3's, he was ready for 4's just a couple days later. but yeah, leaking is a sign too...go up to size 4

  9. You really can't go on the weight of the diapers. Just like you can't always go on the size on his clothes. If they fit fine and work in the day... continue using them. Buy a night time brand for at night. If they don't work all together. Change the brand/size.

If you bought to many. If you got the reciept. Take and exchange them. If you didn't keep the reciept just sell them on craigslist or something like that.

  10. I put Emma in 4's at about eighteen pounds.  I'd say use the 3's up during the daytime and switch to 4's at night.  When you run out of 3's, switch to 4's.

  11. i switched my son to size 4 as soon as he started leaking.  it worked much better.

you can still use your size 3 diapers for the daytime.  you can buy some size 4 diapers or some overnight diapers for nights.

maybe if you still have the receipts by any chance they might let you switch sizes?

add: i usually keep a small pack of the next size diaper so that i can see when i need to switch.

  12. there is a difference between disposables and diapers; for the diapers they would need to be folded different for the larger size..

    stage 3?? what is that?

  13. Those weight limits are just averages...  They've never been correct for my children either.

If they are leaking, it's time to move up to size 4's!  I'm having the same problem!  My baby is 5 months, 19lbs, and leaking out of his 3's!

I still have 8 packages of Size 3's left!!  I'm planning to sell them on craigslist.org

  14. I think there are so many factors.  I usually just move up when the diaper is getting snug.  But, then again, if you've never had leak problems before with the diapers you use, it might be time to go ahead and go up a size (or at least try them to see if the problem resolves).

I know what you mean about stocking up!  We just had to move up to a size 3 and I had to give my brother a whole package of size 2's this past weekend.
