  1. When my daughters feet hit the back of the seat when pushed back :D she still fit in body wise but she was so long, so we moved her to a booster seat but one with the over the head straps and the back seatbelt goes through the middle, they are pretty secure :) (I think she was ten kilos at the time too if that helps)

  2. I try to keep them in their baby seats as long as I can. My middle son was 3 when I moved him into a booster. My eldest (7) and middle son (4) are now in Vario Max boosters by secure'. They were rated the number one safest booster in crash tests and are a great price too ($129.00) I use them with the safety H harnesses as well, rather than just the seat belts, just for the added safety. My 2 year old is still in a car seat, but then will go into a Vario as well. I should note I am Australian, obviously car seat brands and regulations vary from country to country.

Baby seats are up the the age of 4 years, or 18 kilo's. Weight is more of a guide than age, as the seats are not designed for above 18 kilo's (unless you have a convertable car seat/ booster seat to 26 kilo's.) If your childs eye level is level with the back of the seat then it is time to move them up to a booster.

  3. If they are a year old or older they should be in a booster seat. I don't remember the weight. I suggest looking at your states driving requirements that is where I seen it.

  4. Forward facing harnessed seats are outgrown when a child reaches the weight limit, or more commonly when the child's shoulders are above the top harness slots.

If the child is 4 years AND 40lbs, then he may move to a booster with vehicle lap shoulder belt seatbelt.  If not, then the child needs a larger FF harnessed seat.  There are many seats that harness to 55-80lbs.  Some are the Britax Marathon, Decathalon, Boulevard, Frontier and Regent; the Sunshine Kids Radian; the Evenflo Triumph ADVANCE; the Graco Nautilus and the Cosco/Safety First Apex.

Stay away from: The Alpha Omega 3-in-1 seats only harness to 40lbs and most 40lb weight limit seats are outgrown before a child is mature enough for a booster seat.  They also have very low top harness slots, so are outgrown by height at around 2 or 3 years old.  The Graco Comfortsport also has very low top slots.

A child should ride in a booster with vehicle lap/shoulder belt until he or she reaches approximately 4'9" (around age 12) and then can move to just the adult seatbelt if he passes the 5 step test and the seatbelt fits him correctly.

  5. The max weight on my seat is 18kg....but my son will probably be too tall by the time he is that weight. I suppose just move them into a booster seat when they outgrow the baby seat - when their head height is taller than the top of the baby seat, and when their legs are longer than the bottom of the seat
