Question:

When did your baby engage, or drop?

I'm 28 weeks pregnant and for the last week have felt my baby (what feels like) graze over and past my pelvis and around my lower regions! I was just wondering if this is the start of the baby getting into position or if it's just that i'm feeling more now that she's bigger?

Also, when did your midwife tell you how big she thought the baby would weigh? and how did she determine that? I'm terrified of giving birth to a big 'un.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Firstly My midwife and hospital team told me i was expectin a 9/10lb baby and when she arrived she was only 8lb. It doesnt really make a huge difference, unfortuantly the size of the baby isn't gonna make a difference to the pain, but you'll find your own wany to deal with.

As for the baby engaging, SHe propably is moving down to get in to place, as the space tightens she'll have less room to move so she does it now. My daughter's head was ingaged at 26 weeks due to an accident, but she stayed there happy til due date.

    Good Luck,

  2. My daughter engaged at about 38 weeks. At 28 weeks your baby will likely be upside down but wont engage yet. Over the next 10 weeks you will become more uncomfortable as the baby get bigger, nothing much you can do about that, just try to enjoy the experience. There is nothing on earth like the feelinging of a baby moving inside you and you will miss it one the baby os born. I felt empty for a couple of months after delivery.

You may be offered a growth scan at around 34 weeks but it will not be accurate. It makes little odds, big baby small baby, your body will accommodate. Don't be terrified, I did it, your mother did it. It's not the most pleasant feeling in the world but it is so worthwhile.

  3. i don't think mine did. i kept asking my midwives at each visit whether the head was starting to engage and they woudln't give me an answer just one mumbled something about 2/5ths. i felt normal up until i got induced at what they thought was 42 weeks but turns out was only 41...

i found out the weight at a scan near the end of the preganancy at 40ish weeks. i think i only got the scan as i was starting to go overdue. it's only an estimate though. my baby was a bit bigger than they thought.

  4. hi im currently 29 weeks today went for a 3d scan last week and they estimated our baby boy was 21b 3oz. he was also head down so was in position so yours will prob be the same. 11 weeks to go sooo excited babys movements are getting alot stronger now and i feel them all over sometimes lower sometimes slightly higher by ribs thats were his legs are xgood luck with everything hun x

  5. hey

It means the baby is in the right position for when you start your labour

As much as I would like to tell you baby will be here soon, there is no guarantee but it is a sign that labour is very close because at 33 weeks i was 3/5th engaged with my son then he was free at 36 weeks then at 38 weeks i was fully engaged and had my son that week.

at 34 weeks i got sent for a growth scan because they thought he was big, but being born 10 days early he was 7 pounds 5oz so if he was born at 40 weeks he would be over 9 pounds.

    congrats
