Ok - what is considered sitting up for the first time first of all? Is it him being able to balance for more than 30 sweconds alone before tumbling over? Is it sitting for unlimited time alone? Or is it pulling themselves up to a sitting position? My son will be 5 months on Tuesday and he sat for about 30-45 seconds today without tumbling over. Is that considered "sitting"? Lol. When dod your children start to "sit" and what did you define as sitting? When did your child sit unassisted for long periods of time without toppling over?

  1. Six months, as I recall.

  2. He was about 6 months when he could sit well without leaning against something.

  3. 7 months

  4. Both of my girls started sitting up at 4 1/2 months. Chances are he will sit up for long periods of time within the next few weeks. Everyday it will get longer, and longer. But, yes... I would consider that sitting with support. But, not without support. Give him a few weeks of practice :) Just be thankful that you aren't in my shoes....I have a 7 month old walking around...... its a little crazy, and unstable . :)

  5. I wish it was at 6 months.  I was prepared for it to happen about then.  No my son decided at 4 months he was fine to sit up without any help.  Those first few weeks, he got a few bonks on his head from the crib, then inserted bumpers, which he then learned to pull himself to standing on.  I now have a six month old that will cruise on things... AHHHH.  Also cralws at the speed of lighting, lol.  Be happy that is rather normal.  Soon he will be doing things you wish he was not all to soon.  :)  Good luck with your little blessing.

  6. hi! my son started sitting up alone at 5 months. i considered him sitting alone when he could sit up straight and play with something holding up both hands in front of him and not wobble or fall over. also they should be able to look all around turning their head while sitting without falling over.

  7. I considered my baby to be "sitting" when I didn't have to be right next to her to catch her when she tipped over, lol. She could kinda sit for awhile, where it took a lot of effort on her part to balance and not tip, but it wasn't until she was 6 months old that she could sit effortlessly.
