When did your infant start sitting up by himself/herself?

My guy is 6 1/2 months old while the baby books say he should be able to sit up by himself, he still can't, unless you sit him down and balance him out yourself, but then after a bit he still wobbles over.

When did your babies start sitting on their own?

  1. my baby started at 4 1/2 months and was able to sit with out wigglying down to one side by 51/2 now she is 6 1/2 months and is crawling

  2. My little girl turned 7 months last week and she is just able to sit up on her own with out tipping over within the last week.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...every baby does things at thier own rate. The baby books are only a rough guideline.

  3. All depends on the child as well.. my daughter started to try to sit up around 4 months but didn`t get the balance about it until she was about 7 months, she could sit up but would soon after tumble to one side or the other.

  4. Babies are not an exact science, my daughter didn't sit up until around 7 months.  THough in her case she started crawling at 5 months and did not care to sit up cause she had better things to do.  If you feel concerned talk with your pediatrician, I'm sure everything is just fine.

  5. At 4 months

  6. My daughter was able to sit without support when she was 6 months old. Before then she used to fall over to the side sometimes.

Your son sounds fine to me.

My niece did not sit properly till she was about 8 months old and she is now a perfectly fine 4 year old.

Every child developes at different rates

  7. my baby is 7.5 months and started at about 6 months but would wobble and fall. Now she can stay sitting up (most times) but cant pull herself to a sitting position. throw the books out and just enjoy your baby

  8. Five to six months, but she has done everything a little early.  I think the average is six to eight months.

  9. My daughter is 4 months old and she is trying to sit up by herself when i put her on my lap or put her on the couch. So i believe that they should be sitting up between the fourth and fifth month.

  10. My son sat up around 5 months, my daughter is 5.5 months and still has trouble.  A pamphlet I received from the Michigan Education Dept says that at 6 months they should sit with a little help and then jumps to 9 months saying they should be able to sit/switch positions without falling.

  11. 4 months
