  1. It depends on the restaurant and the circumstances.

Most "service" charges are reserved for large parties and it is the tip..but the restaurant has to inform you before hand.

Another "service charge" is a local tax that is not counted with state and federal taxes.

If you have any questions,,, Just ask...The manager will be more than happy to explain it to you.

As for me,,I think that you should tip the server personally...so if you find out that the service charge is not a gratuity....then tip and tip well.

And to that poor girl who "hates to do the math"...

That is pathetic..if your personal bill is 40bucks...2 or 3 dollars is going to get your food spit in the next time you come in.

  2. i hate to do the math, make it easy as possible: a dollar or two per person that ate...if 3 people ate, then 3-6 dollars etc.

  3. include the tax and service when you figure the tip...if you got great service, tip accordingly. its a shame that some resturaunts gotta try to pad the bill....even more so that i have to take it out of the wait persons tip but if they can wait tables there, they can wait tables anywhere...so quit and work for someone more ethical.

  4. a quick cheat to find thing the tip amount is to find your sales tax total on your receipt and double it.

  5. Well is the service charge the tip? I thought it was. There is a lot of controversy at the moment about tips. I would like to think that if you tip a waiter/waitress they should be able to keep that money soley for themselves. They have served and attended to you so why do they have to pool it?

  6. if they add it on themselves then they are greedy and trying to scam you because alot of people don't read the bill they just pay it, then they are getting double tips. if it's added, don't give no more!!!
