I was searching for Virgin America flights & they were about $408 total round trip about 6AM. Now it's increased to $573 total! It's 7:30AM right now.

Questions:

1. Will the prices go down?

2. I heard that the prices go up during the day & down during the night, is it correct??

3. Is it cheaper to buy the ticket last minute?? Like the day before.

Please answer these questions. & Thank for any help in advance.

  1. Here are the answers I had for you before I saw that you want to fly just a few days from now on a route that's routinely sold out well in advance.

    1. It could happen, but probably not.

    2. Not exactly. On some (not all) airlines adjustments are made to the number of seats offered at various discounted fares are made in the middle of the night, based on how well more expensive seats are selling. That can have the effect of raising OR lowering prices available. Between adjustments, available prices will only go up, as the cheapest seats are sold.

    3. Rarely.Sometimes there are last-minute specials, but they are for the flights the airline wants to fill up, not your choice of destinations.

Bottom line: Be amazed and happy that you can get your tickets as cheaply as you can, and buy now. Next time, plan (and buy) ahead.

  2. I really don't know when prices will go down however, I will tell you one thing.  These websites collect data on how many times you check prices (ie. cookies).  If they see that you're interested in one flight in particular, the price will go up.  Try clearing your cache and cookies.  Hopefully I was of some help!

  3. 1. Not likely. Unless you happen to book around a promotional time; the reality is that they will probably only get more expensive as jetfuel costs go up dramatically.

    2. I don't doubt it fluxuates daily, but i don't think it goes by time of day.

    3. Absolutely NOT. Best plan is to buy your tickets as soon as you are sure of your plans, as in months in advance. When you book last minute, that's when they really ream you.

  4. Hire a travel agent!
