Question:

When do I get alterations to my bridesmaid dress?

Our dresses were ordered from a bridal shop out of my area. I live in a different state than the bride. She wanted them all from the same cut of fabric so she ordered them by taking our measurements. I just got the dress and I have lost weight since I gave her the measurements and its too big and ridiculously long on me so it definately needs alterations. A friend is going to give me the name of a seamstress who will do them but I don't know how soon I should make the appointment or how long I should wait before its too late. The wedding is October 25, 2008.

  1. Honey call the seamstress and see how long it will take to alter it and then take it to her in plenty time to get it back. My daughter had her wedding dress hemmed and the lady did a fantastic job in no time at all.

  2. start alterations by mis august... it can sometimes take a while and a few appoitments

  3. Make it as soon as possible - it can take several months for alterations to be completed. Once the first round is done, you'll go in again and try the dress on, and they can adjust if you have any more changes.

  4. Why don't you call the seamstress and discuss it with them.  They will know how long it will take them to make the alterations.  Taking length off the dress is not a big deal.  But depending on how much they have to take the dress in, they may have to completely reconstruct it.  I would call them and try to set up an appointment now to give them an idea of what they need to do.  They can just pin the dress now, and you can go back when it is closer to the wedding to have them actually sew it.

  5. R u still trying to lose weight? If you are then I would wait til about mid August. You want to have enough time to get it before the wedding. You don't want to have the time cut short and maybe not have the dress back in time. So I would definitely say take it to get altered sometime soon.

    Good Luck!

  6. I would definately call the seamstress and make an appointment for mid-late August.
