When do I give my puppies shots and worm them? They are 4 weeks now. I think it is at 6 weeks but someone told me 8 weeks. What is the right thing to do? And then how many shots should they have after that and how many weeks apart? How often should I worm them?

  1. they should be de-wormed about now, and again maybe at 8 or nine weeks. vaccines depends, the have 3 vaccine shots till they are almost 5 months, and once for raves  when they are allmost four (im talking how mine got it), but the main thing is that u give them how vet told u and on time, coz i read constantly on internet about people who delayed those stuff, and thet coz of that pups life are in serious danger. and dont let ur pup playing with adult dogs until pup gets his first two vaccine shots.

    good luck

  2. The best thing to do would be to ask your veterinarian.  They will know what your breed requires.

  3. A vet should direct you in how to properly get them vaccinated and dewormed.  Over the counter vaccinations/dewormers can be tricky, and it's easy to overdose a puppy, or not give them enough.  A vet could do it for you, or at the very least, can teach you how to properly do it, and what to give.

  4. Deworming process can start now.  First set of shots can be as early as 6 weeks.  Puppies should be deworm several times.  My old vet did it every 3 weeks.  The new vet give me a dose every week for 4 weeks.

  5. Nemex is an OTC wormer that has a great safety margin.  Always shake it really well, and then do it again to be sure that it is completely in suspension.

Worm them according to the Nemex label, or your vet's advice.  (I have had two dams that never passed worms to their pups).  Worm once out of routine, if you don't see any worms, take a sample in (you only need one from the litter) a couple of weeks after the worming to see if you even need to do it again. You can worm them right now.

    Regarding puppy shots:

You can give an intra-nasal Bordetella now - the Bordetella antibody molecule is large, and does not cross into breast milk.

Your first series of DHPPC may be given at 6-8 weeks (I give mine at 6 weeks).  This first shot  includes Corona vaccine as well, but don't waste your money giving Corona vaccine to pups over 8 weeks, as the veterinary community has never been able to reproduce it in pups over 8 weeks.

I usually follow what you've just read, and then tell the pup's new owners to follow their own vet's advice.

    Good luck

  6. You should have a vet working with you with this litter.  Also it sounds like you need to spay the dam after this litter is sold.

  7. 6 weeks and take them back every 3 weeks for shots and worm for 3 to 4 sets of puppy shots and at 4 months they get a rabies shot and are good for a yrs.
