When do I register for my wedding shower?

My fiance and I are getting married June 20th of '09 and people keep asking us if we have registered for our wedding! We say, "no...not yet", and people GASP..."You havent registered yet?!?!?" Like we should have done it YEARS ago!!! We have 10 whole months until the wedding and 9 months until the shower... I was thinking of registering in April so I can make sure to get the newest things...people wont know where I am registered until they get the invitation for the wedding anyway! What is the rush? Should I have already registered? Are there any benefits to registering this early? Any advice would be great!!!! The more the better!!! Thank you!

I'm already registered!! And my wedding is in May of 2010!!! But I'm an early bird bigtime!!! You can register whenever you want!! You're right they won't know where you're registered until they get the invite! Some people just want to know so they can plan accordingly! Good luck!

Think for a moment, about why you want to register:

One reason might be, because you want to get a bunch of gifts and know that you won't have to return them. Unfortunately, that reason sounds a bit greedy and materialistic, doesn't it?

Another reason might be, because you want to plan your household affects in such a way as to be able to present a gracious, well-appointed home to the many guests to whom you hope to offer hospitality over the coming decades. You will want the department stores to help you in that planning: to keep track of your china, crystal and silver patterns for you; to let you know of special offers or of the discontinuation of your pattern, to help you replace broken pieces. You will want that, whether you buy these items for yourself or receive them as gifts, right?

In fact, many old-fashioned girls start collecting their china in their teens or even earlier. Often single ladies who enjoy offering hospitality will have registries, to help build up the equipage they need for entertaining. Taken in that light, registering puts the focus on yoo *offering hospitality*, rather than on you *getting stuff*. And in that light, it is never too soon to register.

i am getting married june 6th. people did the same to me. we just started registering this weekend.
