When do I seal slate tiles?

Question

I'm building a patio and I'm planning to put slate tiles on the steps leading to the patio. I want to know at what points in the process do I seal the tiles, such as:

a. Before placing the tiles on the steps

b. Some times have to be cut. Do I seal before I cut?

c. After placing but before grouting

d. After grouting

Or is it all of the above or any combination of the above.

Any information will be much appreciated.

Seal them after cutting, that way it is easier to remove the dry grout. Otherwise you can use a floor brush to remove the dry grout and then seal, but that is hard word. I made this mistake and wished I sealed after cutting.
