When do acorns fall off the trees in the northeast?

Maybe a dumb question....so forgive me. My daughter wishes to do a craft project with a few acorns and I need to know when I can look for these. The only place I could purchase them was for a pound (way more than she needs) and it was $$.

Any ideas here? I live in Buffalo NY area and will be hitting the local woods at the appropriate time--and hope we haven't missed it--or else I see raiding squirrels nest and that's just not good for anyone.

Thanks!

  1. Acorns fall in the Fall, though you can often find some under the trees earlier than this. Your big "enemy" is squirrels, who will often carry every acorn away and bury them before you get to them.

  2. They usually starts falling mid September or early October.  So you have not missed it yet

  3. end of sept
