When do airline tickets get put up for purchasing?

My husband and I want to go to South Africa in December 09.

We currently live in Australia.

When do the tickets get released to buy for December 09?

Tickets go up for sale one year in advance so you will be able to book your flights in December. Have fun in South Africa!

Different airlines publish them at different times.

It is pretty common for them to release fares 11 months ahead of time, but I have seen some do it only 6 months ahead of time.

I would suggest that you look at Qantas' or SAA's website and see if your question is answered in a FAQ there.  Or call their customer service hotline.

You can go ahead a purchase them now.  The sooner you get them the better and the cheaper they are.

Buy them early and get a good window seat (by good I mean near a emergency exit; more leg space)
