And what's the first thing they usually say? I heard from my mom I started talking when I was really young, but some kids at 2 or 3 still don't talk at all. Does that mean there's something wrong with them?

  1. Anywhere from 7months-3 years (but 3 is only in extreme cases). Most babies say mom, no, or dad because it's easier. But Lola said book and drink first.

  2. It is different for every baby, and no, there is nothing wrong usually.  Sometimes they are talking, but you just don't understand what they are saying for awhile.  We videotaped our twins when they were two years old, and watched it several years later.  Oddly enough, in the video, nobody understood what they were saying to us, but when they were older and we watched the video, we did understand.  I think it was because we were accustomed to their voices and speech patterns by then.  Our grandson is 1 year old, and we understand a word he says every now and then.  For instance, he looks in the mirror and says, "Hi baby."  But he also does a lot of jabbering that we do not understand.  That doesn't mean he isn't talking, though!  His words are becoming more like our words all the time.  Some children are not talkative, and they don't get as much practice, so they seem to be late talkers, but that does not mean there is anything wrong with them.

  3. hard to say ..each child is different but around a year or so my daughter started talking...dada mama...alf..(our dogs name) ... wasnt much but by 2 or 2 1/2 she was putting small sentences together..

  4. When they are ready..Come on that is like asking when will a baby walk!!! they all do it on their own time..some younger some older

  5. if they talk late they might have autism but there first word should be around 1 and half - 2

  6. When they are born, they whisper something in your ear.

    Baby: Knock Knock?

    Mom: Who's there???

Baby: Me, and I always will be.

  7. 1  1/2 to 2 years old and there is nothing wrong with them. My cuz didn't start talkin tell he was 4 and he is pretty normal. Nerdy but normal

  8. when you teach them how to talk!!

  9. Babies start talking when they are 2 years old.

  10. They start when they are ready and they say the words they hear the most im guessing.

  11. Girls normally are faster speakers than boys. My niece started talking when she was 13 mths & my son when he was about 18 mths, although he understood what we were saying. I guess you have to seek medical advise when they don't say a lot of words by the time they are 2 or older.

  12. I think 18.

  13. A baby usually say mama, dada, baba, etc... as early as 8 months

my daughter is 19 months and can say momma, dada, papa, baseball, dog, kit cat, hello, no, stop it, yummm, baby, etc...

Some kids learn faster than others. Make sure you have him or her around people a lot. They will talk faster. Mackenzie is usually only around her father and I. She is learning a tad slower than ones in daycare or that are around tons of kids

  14. when there ready about 1yrs of age or so answer mine http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

  15. Babies usually say a word or two before their first birthday.

If a child is not saying any words by 2 or 3 years old, there is most likely a problem with that child.

  16. They usally start talking at around 16 mounths but its all deffers from people. the frist word they say is something thay hear commonly around and soon then can also pronounce it.

  17. i started talking when i was about 9 months old.

  18. most babies start talking at around 2... usually abit before 2... and generally their first word is mommy or daddy

no there is nothing wrong with babies that talk late.!

All kids develop at a diferent rate

  19. babies dont talk toddlers talk depends when they feel like talking.

  20. There is a wide range of "normal" with children.  Some kids speak early, and other speak late.  It doesn't mean there is necessarily something "wrong" with them.  My son spoke his first word, which was hi, well before the age of 6 months.  He soon after started saying dada, mama, etc.  He had a pretty large single - word vocabulary by his first birthday.  That may have had something to do with the fact that we taught him infant sign language (he could sign by 6 months old), we kept the TV and other electronics off, and we read to him daily beginning when he was in the womb.  Or maybe language is simply his area.  On the other hand, he was average in motor skills - crawling at 7 months and walking at 11 months.  And really, does it matter?  When they're in kindergarten, nobody is going to be able to tell who spoke first and who walked first.  Just let them go at their own pace, and they'll most likely be fine.

  21. It depends on what you mean by "talking."  Many babies begin making sounds (ooh, ahh, gah, mmm) around 2-3 months.  A lot of cooing and babbling takes place in the first year.  Generally by one year, many children can say basic words like mama and dada.  Most toddlers can put basic phrases together by two years.

If a child isn't saying ANYTHING by age two, I would be a little concerned.  It's not a sure sign that anything is wrong (he/she could just be developmentally delayed), but it would definitely be a good idea to get a referal to a speech specialist.

  22. No, it doesn't mean there is some thing wrong necessarily. All children develop at different stages and paces. It all depends on when they feel ready, same as with potty training. Some babies start saying their first words around 6-8 months. Both my kids first words were mama and dada. Good luck!
