  1. Most of the time when a program feels that a young man needs to get his academics in order they'll redshirt this guy so he can get this taken care of. The red-shirt was originally set up for this reason, but if a young man is simply has great talent and they feel that bringing him up slowly they'll red-shirt him for that reason too. Its mostly to get the kids academics ahead of them so they can relax a bit more and concentate on their sport more.

A young man (freshman) that does not seem to pose academic issues and seem fit to play college ball will most likley not get red shirted and

is used immediately on the team.

  2. Start of training camp. You might wanna try that teams website and check under the athletics page.

  3. there are two different redshirts for starters .. the first is a medical redshirt which is where if a player is injured early on in the season and didnt play a certain amount of time then he can be awarded a medical redshirt for that year and that year wont eat up a year of their eligibility.. the other redshirt is a coach distributed redshirt which is done when a player is very talented but their position is so deep they wont see the field at all or if they need a year to get stronger, faster, and work on their academics..

  4. In their Freshman year they RED SHIRT them so they can come back for a 5th year.
