When do food flavourings become artifical?

I mean, they all come from SOMEWHERE?

They become "artificial" when they are not directly from natural sources - i.e. they are manufactured according to a chemical formula and not  an extract of anything grown or produced naturally.

Pear drops taste of Amyl acetate, and have never been near a pear in their lives.

when they in your mouth..because, technically, they aren't artificial unless you consume them... clever, eh?
