I'm almost 20. I'm only 5'7". How do I know if my growth plates have closed? If they haven't yet, can I use growth hormones?

  1. Male growth will usually continue to about 23 years old.  Most of the fast spurts occur during your teens, but you will continue to grow into your early twenties.  Generally an xray will tell if you have more growth plate left, but that won't tell how much taller you will become.

There isn't anything to do to increase your height except surgery where they break your legs, insert a piece of bone, graft it in, and your magically 3 inches taller.

  2. it is possible that they are open for quite a while. an x-ray is the only way to tell. some docs might be able to feel your bone joints in your hand and tell you.

generally once you've completed puberty, it has closed as these growth plates are affected by testoterone. it makes it grow faster and hence you grow taller but at the same time hardens it so that you grow up to some point and can't grow any more.

growth hormones won't make you grow any taller once the plates have sealed
